Omega-3 fatty acids for pregnant and breastfeeding women
Due to legal regulations, we previously advised against Omega-3 Vida and Omega-3 Vegan for pregnant and breastfeeding women. With the correct labeling, expectant and new mothers can now also enjoy the healthy omega-3 fatty acids.
Omega-3 fatty acids, such as those found in fish, krill or algae, have positive effects on heart and brain health. The two fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are particularly important. In the case of pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, the legislator makes a hardly comprehensible volte face: while 1000 mg DHA or 5000 mg EPA + DHA per day has been set as the maximum amount for a normal adult person, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers are only allowed to take 450 mg DHA or 450 mg EPA + DHA per day. Although their requirement is certainly not lower.
As a result, we now recommend a lower dosage for pregnant and breastfeeding women or have to write that the product is not suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women. We now include the adjusted dosage for pregnant and breastfeeding women on Omega-3 Vida and Omega-3 Vegan and also supply the appropriate dosage cap.
Omega-3 Vida is the proven, high-quality fish oil, while Omega-3 Vegan is the new algae-based oil. An important quality feature of omega-3 fatty acids is the EPA and DHA values. These are extremely high in kingnature products:
- Omega-3 Vida: 10 ml (1 tablespoon) contains 1000 mg DHA and 1150 mg EPA
- Omega-3 Vegan: 5 ml (1 coffee spoon) contains 1000 mg DHA and 5 mg EPA
The intake of omega-3 fatty acids by the mother has many positive effects on the infant. The intake of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) contributes:
- contributes to normal eye development in the fetus and breastfed infant.
- contributes to the normal development of vision in infants up to the age of 12 months.
- contributes to normal brain development in the fetus and breastfed infant.
These are the daily doses officially approved by the legislator for adults:
1000 mg DHA or 5000 mg EPA + DHA
These are the daily doses officially approved by the legislator for pregnant and breastfeeding women:
450 mg DHA or 450 mg EPA + DHA
