Omega-3 fatty acids: EPA, DHA and ALA
Omega-3 fatty acids are unsaturated fatty acids that are essential for the human body, i.e. they cannot be produced by the body itself. The two most important omega-3 acids are EPA and DHA. If you want to take vegan Omega-3 Vegan fatty acids, you can use vegetable oils containing Omega-3, such as linseed, rapeseed, soya and walnut oil. However, these mainly contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is an omega-3 fatty acid but must first be converted into EPA and DHA by the body.

Omega-3 Vegan has a high content of omega-3 fatty acids. These have the following functions, among others:

Omega-3 from algae
Algae are a good plant-based source of omega-3 fatty acids. The marine algae Schizochytrium sp. produces EPA and, above all, DHA. The microalgae is a tiny plant that is only visible under a microscope and consists of just a few cells.
The microalgae in Omega-3 Vegan are cultivated in salt water and extracted and processed in Switzerland. It is a high-quality refined oil obtained using physical extraction technology and without solvents.
Omega-3 from corn gromwell
The seeds of the corn gromwell (Buglossoides arvensis) contain in particular the omega-3 fatty acid SDA (stearidonic acid). Our corn gromwell oil is obtained from plants that are not genetically modified (GMO-free).

Notes on shelf life and storage
The product can be stored in the unopened original packaging at ambient temperature for 36 months from the date of manufacture. We recommend keeping the bottle refrigerated after opening. During refrigerated storage, crystallisation or sedimentation may occur in the oil due to its natural origin. This does not affect the product quality. Therefore, always swirl the bottle carefully before use (do not shake). Ideally, the oil should be used within 6 weeks of first opening.
Outstanding TOTOX value
The TOTOX value is a measure of the oxidation value of an oil. The higher the value, the more rancid the oil; the lower the value, the fresher the oil. According to international organisations, the TOTOX value for an omega-3 oil should not exceed 26(more on this in this encyclopaedia article). The TOTOX value of Omega-3 Vegan is less than 5, which is proof of the outstanding quality of Omega-3 Vegan.
